Research suggests that as many as 15 percent of young women adopt unhealthy attitudes and behaviors about food.

Preteen and teen girls experience many transformations during their development. As they increasingly look to peers for acceptance and self-confidence, preteen and teen girls often focus and rely on their external appearances in order to gain acceptance and establish a sense of self. Those with low self-esteem may suffer from poor body image, which may trigger depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and high-risk behaviors. Intervention at the appropriate time can allow these girls to grow up into confident young women who understand that their self-worth resides in their internal sense of self versus their external appearance.

“Mirror” provides a supportive environment for preteen and teen girls to openly share their personal struggles with body image. Participants benefit from sharing their thoughts and feelings and hearing the experiences of other group members with the guidance of co-facilitators.

Group Topics include:

  • Encouraging personal empowerment
  • Maintaining nutrition
  • Developing a healthy self-image
