Chat Club
Co-ed social skills group
Middle School and High School groups
12-week group
Teens rely heavily upon relationships with peers when establishing a sense of self and developing their personal identity. Some teens may experience anxiety and feel self-conscious in social situations. Teens are faced with choices to surround themselves with different sets of peers. Those who feel self-conscious and experience social anxiety may suffer from low self-esteem. This can often lead to poor decision- making, potentially putting them at risk for alcohol and substance abuse and other high-risk behaviors.
Chat Club assists teens in making optimal social choices. The goal of the group is to decrease the anxiety they experience in social situations through developing skills that teens can apply to future social encounters. Participants are encouraged to build healthy relationships in a relaxed and informal setting with the guidance of co-facilitators.
Group Topics include:
- Avoiding peer pressure
- Developing assertiveness
- Mastering basic communication
- Gaining confidence in social situations
- Maintaining positive peer relationships
